Postal Workers Face Serious Threats in Tampa

Mailman

Postal workers in Orlando face serious threats every single day. From slips and falls to attacks from both animals and humans, this work is more dangerous than many realize. A recent incident in Florida highlights these dangers, and some of these incidents can easily prove fatal. What can you do after an injury as a postal worker? Can a workers’ compensation lawyer in Tampa help?

Two Women Arrested After Robbing and Kidnapping Postal Worker

In May of 2025, multiple sources reported that police had arrested two women for robbing and kidnapping a postal worker in Florida. The incident occurred last year when a USPS worker was held at gunpoint by an armed assailant. The assailant then instructed the worker to get into his van and “count to 50” as he fled in his white Lexus.

During the altercation, the worker handed over a USPS scanner, an arrow key, and his phone. Authorities found the suspect’s vehicle by analyzing traffic camera footage. They also determined that the vehicle had been driven by a female co-conspirator. Finally, police found out that a second woman had been participating in various crimes involving stolen mail and credit cards.

Fortunately, the postal worker was unharmed. However, the situation must have been incredibly traumatic for him. In addition, it could have been much worse. Other postal workers have not been so fortunate, suffering various injuries due to altercations with armed robbers.

Postal Workers Are Also Frequently Attacked by Dogs

Aside from violent criminals, postal workers also face serious threats from aggressive dogs. When venturing onto private property to deliver mail, many postal workers have been savagely mauled by aggressive dogs left in yards by irresponsible owners. These attacks can be disfiguring, traumatizing, and fatal.

Postal Workers May Also Suffer Fall-Related Injuries

Although postal workers use their vans to deliver mail, they also face various walking hazards when delivering mail. Property owners may create dangerous situations, such as broken staircases or unstable pathways.

Can Postal Workers File Workers’ Comp Claims?

Postal workers can file claims under the Federal Employees’ Compensation Act (FECA). Although this isn’t quite the same as Florida’s state workers’ comp program, it provides the same general results. In addition, you may be able to file personal injury lawsuits for injuries caused by negligent property owners.

This might include accidents related to falls, dog attacks, and other hazards on private property. Ultimately, this is something you should discuss with a workers’ comp lawyer.

Can a Workers’ Comp Lawyer in Tampa Help Injured Postal Workers?

A workers’ compensation lawyer in Tampa can help virtually all workers, including postal workers. While FECA might present certain complications when filing claims, an experienced lawyer can help you get the compensation you need. Whether you’re recovering from a dog bite, a fall, or an attack by robbers, you don’t have to proceed without legal assistance. Contact The Franco Law Firm today to learn more about your options.
