Social Media Can Affect Your SSD Application

When applying for Social Security Disability benefits, it is important to cover all bases in order to increase the chances of the application being accepted. This not only means having a well thought out and designed application, but also being careful to not let other, external factors influence the process. Something that is commonly overlooked om applying for SSD benefits is the role that social media plays.

You may have heard the advice when applying for a job or college admission to be careful of how your social media looks because employers and admissions professionals review them. This is not only good advice in those situations, but it also holds true when working with the Social Security Administration. When going through the application process, don’t doubt that the SSA can and will look through your Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and other social media sites.

How can this impact the chances of a Disability application being accepted? The outcome is generally negative if there is anything posted online that is contrary to what is on the application. Therefore, you want to be very careful to not post anything that may bring into question claims being made on your SSD application. For example, claiming the inability to be physically active and then posting a picture on a mountain hike can lead to an application’s rejection.

Remember to always be careful about what you post on social media and if there is any doubt about if something will be construed as harmful, don’t post it. If your SSD application is rejected for whatever reason, we at the Franco Firm are here to help you overturn it and see that you receive the benefits that you deserve.
