What to Do if You’re in an Accident with Uber or Lyft

Many people today use the taxi-like services of Uber and Lyft to patron rides from others. While typically users of these services experience smooth rides, sometimes they are not as successful and an accident occurs and an injury is the result. If this has happened to you or someone you know, you may be wondering what your options are in terms of receiving compensation to help pay your medical expenses. Thankfully, you have many.

Uber and Lyft both have excellent insurance programs that dispense funds to many people who sustain injuries in accidents involving their drivers every year. This is because they have such an emphasis on safety and want to maintain a reputation of taking care of their respective customers. This works to your advantage, as if you do sustain an injury involving them, you should first file a claim with their insurance company.

Additionally, if it was the driver of another vehicle that was at fault in the accident, you may be eligible for compensation from their insurance company as well. To obtain this, a personal injury suit may have to be filed against that other, individual driver. In Florida, we also have a no-fault policy, meaning that in the event of any kind of automobile accident-related injury, you are eligible for compensation for medical claims from your own insurance company.

There are many options and many ways to receive financial compensation for injuries sustained in a car accident involving an Uber or Lyft driver. That being said, it is always a good idea to consult with an attorney to best help you make the most of your claims and completely cover your medical expenses and potentially lost wages.
