Common Work Injuries for Healthcare Professionals

Every kind of job carries with it the risk for some kind of injury, but there are some that are more dangerous than other. It will come as no surprise to those that work in this field, but healthcare professionals are some of the most at risk employees to suffer an injury while on the job. Nurses, doctors, emergency room personnel, pharmacists, and other professionals in these fields serve the people treating their injuries and illnesses, but at the same time are likely to suffer afflictions of their own.

Some of the most common work injuries for healthcare professionals are those related to sprains and strains. This is particularly true for those that work in hospitals, as a spillage of liquids can lead one to slip and fall. In addition, the moving of patients and heavy equipment can lead to muscle sprains and strains, particularly when facilities are understaffed. Similarly, broken bones can also occur from these kinds of activities or the trauma involved when overexertion happens.

Those in the healthcare fields are also at risk to contract infectious diseases from the workplace. Normally this is hard to prove for the purposes of worker’s compensation, however it is not so difficult to trace when one’s job involves being in close proximity to those who are already sick. Health protocols tend to prevent most of these incidents from occurring, however they still do and can lead to some severe illnesses.
