Florida Construction Workers Suffer Serious Accidents

ConstructionAcc2

The construction industry is one of the most dangerous sectors in Florida for obvious reasons. The average construction site is filled with all kinds of hazards, including electrical dangers, moving vehicles, falling objects, and much more. A recent pair of construction accidents in Florida show how serious these injuries can be, and they highlight the need for safety regulation in the Sunshine State. But what can you do if you have been injured by a construction accident in Florida?

Florida Worker Killed by Electrical Accident

On August 23rd, it was reported that a worker in Palm Bay had been killed after an electrical accident at a construction site. The accident occurred because a crane accidentally made contact with power lines. This caused an electrical fire that caused the cab of the crane to burst. It is not clear whether the crane operator was the worker who died, but this is a strong possibility due to the circumstances involved. Not only did the accident rob a man of his life, but it also caused a widespread power outage.

One can only assume that a major safety violation led to this accident. An investigation will determine whether a safety supervisor failed to recognize the danger. It’s not clear why the crane was allowed to operate so close to the power lines, or whether the workers involved were even aware of the risk.

Miami Construction Worker Impaled on Rebar

On August 24th of 2023, it was reported that a construction worker in Miami had been impaled on a piece of rebar. Although the individual survived, he was left with critical injuries. A video of the incident later surfaced on the web, and it depicts first responders trying to free the man from the rebar. The metal allegedly went directly through his torso. Firefighters were forced to use various cutting instruments to free the man from the rebar.

One can only assume that this accident was caused by a fall. Although it could be argued that falling on rebar is a freak accident, only a detailed investigation can determine the root cause of the incident. The injury might have been caused by safety violations. Workers must be made aware of the hazards posed by falls and rebar, regardless of how remote the possibility of an injury might be.
